IFP Welcomes McBride Decision

26th September 2008

The Inkatha Freedom Party welcomes the decision by the Ekurhuleni mayor to terminate the contract of Metro Police boss, Robert McBride.

"Robert McBride has been nothing but trouble and he has set a really bad example as the Ekurhuleni metro police chief, so good riddance," said Mr Velaphi Ndlovu MP, the IFP's Safety and Security Spokesperson.

"This has been another great example of the ANC's jobs-for-pals policy, which sees the ANC appointing people to top posts because of their struggle credentials, but not having any real qualifications to make a success of the powerful positions given to them."

Mr Ndlovu added that the IFP strongly objected to fact that the municipality will still be paying McBride's legal fees.

"We find it absolutely ridiculous that the Ekurhuleni taxpayer will still have to fork out money to pay McBride's legal fees.

"Earlier this year it was reported that McBride was at the centre of 18 police investigations. Surely the municipality can find more constructive ways to spend their money than to waste it on trying to keep an alleged crook out of jail?" concluded Mr Ndlovu.
