The Inkatha Freedom Party says abstinence from sex and faithfulness to one's partner are the safest methods to fight HIV and AIDS. The party said this in reaction to a continuing saga of faulty condoms that have allegedly been illegally approved by a bribed SABS official. The KwaZulu-Natal IFP Spokesperson on Health, Dr Bonginkosi Buthelezi said:

"The continuing saga around millions of condoms that have illegally found their way to the public should warn South Africans that they cannot place their complete trust on condoms. In the circumstances, abstinence from sex by the youth and faithfulness to one's partner remain the only 100% reliable methods through which one can ensure that they are safe from these diseases.

"We therefore urge government to begin to place more emphasis on the messages of abstinence and faithfulness. In addition, government must begin to support all the structures that are committed to preserving and promoting traditional forms of moral behaviour such as virginity-testing, instead of discouraging them. No corrupt official can temper with one's resolve to conduct themselves morally."
