The IFP has
expressed concern about an important meeting of the
uMgungundlovu District Council which appears to have been
“tactically delayed” by the ANC.
Today's
district council meeting was expected to discuss the controversy
surrounding the Acting Municipal Manager Monica Mngadi’s
professional qualifications.
A recent
report in The Witness newspaper has suggested that Mngadi’s
qualifications submitted to the council prior to her appointment
may have been fabricated. Mngadi’s doctorate was allegedly
conferred by a non-existent institution and, similarly, her MBA
course took only a day to complete.
One hour
later after the scheduled start of the meeting today the IFP
learned that the ANC caucus was still in session. “These are the
ruling party’s usual delaying tactics. They clearly cannot find
an easy way out of the mess they got themselves into with this
seemingly irregular appointment,” said IFP Councillor Ntokozo
Bhengu.
The IFP will
demand a thorough investigation into the Acting Municipal
Manager’s recruitment process. “If the irregularities reported
in the press are confirmed, we on the opposition benches will
demand swift action,“ said Cllr Bhengu.
