"Stop the violence - says the IFP"

DURBAN : OCTOBER 28, 2002

The National Organiser of the IFP, Mr AM Mncwango (MP), reacted with grave concern at the alleged attempted assassination of Inkosi Mntumenkosi Mjabuliseni Dube of Kwa-Dube Traditional Authority (Empembeni), a staunch IFP member and stalwart on Friday, 25th October, at 13h30, in Esikhawini, next to the Mabuyeni Post.

Mr Albert Mncwango said:

"Without warning gunmen sprung from behind the Mabuyeni Post Office and shot at the Inkosi. He was shot on the right side of the chest and collapsed."

Inkosi is fighting for his life in intensive care. It appears that the attacker has been positively identified by a member of the community."

"We call on the Police to investigate to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested as soon as possible and that the police ensure the security of his family. We also call on the detractors of democracy who seem hell-bent on stirring up trouble in KwaZulu-Natal, for whatever reason, to stop."

"We join the Inkosi's family in praying for his full recovery."
