Responding to the article ‘IFP and UDM want
elections postponed’, in The Sowetan, September 29, the IFP National
spokesperson, Reverend Musa Zondi, clarified the party’s position.
Reverend Zondi said that it is preposterous to
suggest that the IFP has called for the postponement of the elections when
the government has not even set the date; but rather that the party was
emphatic that the government should address all outstanding issues to
ensure that when the elections took place, they were fair and successful.
Reverend Zondi said:
“It is untrue and mischievous to suggest that
the IFP has called for the postponement of the election, as effectively
there is not an election date until the actual date is announced by the
government.”
Reverend Zondi added that for the elections to be
successful, with maximum popular participation and for them to take place
in a positive atmosphere, it was imperative that several issues were
resolved. These included the complaints and concerns relating to the
demarcation process.
