Crime stats comes down and corruption goes up

Durban: 29 September 2004

“It is pathetic that members of the Police Services are involved in corruption, bribery and prostitution while on duty,” said Mr VB Ndlovu MP, IFP spokesperson of Safety and Security.

“It is no use that the Minister of Safety and Security brag about crime statistics that decreased but corruption is flourishing on the other hand. The fact that none of the officers wore nametags is an indication that the crimes were premeditated and not something unusual for them. These officers are supposed to protect South Africans and rid the country of crime, yet they resort to crime themselves.

“The IFP hopes that the Minister will view this incident in a very serious light. The IFP demands the prosecution of these officers after the investigation and they are not fit to be members of safety and security. This must be done immediately in order to see that justice is done South Africa.”
