IFP Triumphs Over Minister of Justice

30 March 2009

The IFP Chief Whip, Koos van der Merwe, will brief the media on the IFP's reaction to the judgment handed down by the Supreme Court of Appeal today, against the Minister of Justice.

The Supreme Court of Appeal today ruled in favour of the IFP by dismissing the appeal by the Minister of Justice in relation to the applications for pardon by 384 political prisoners.

Today's victory comes after a five year battle for the rights of these prisoners which has seen the IFP taking their case to the Human Rights Commission, the High Court, Amnesty International and the Supreme Court of Appeal.
