IFP Durban Metro Calls Off CBD March

30th October 2008

The Inkatha Freedom Party Durban Metro has cancelled a march that was scheduled to take place in the Durban CBD, on Saturday, 1 November 2008.

The IFP planned to demonstrate in a bid to seek a solution to the bus drivers' and solid waste workers strike, which brought the eThekwini Metro to a halt.

"The consequences of the strike for the public were self-evident: commuters and school children were left stranded while litter was piling up on our streets.

"The strike was a matter of grave concern to the IFP, which was the reason why we intervened, by writing a letter to the municipality offering solutions to the crisis. Because of our guidance a settlement has now been reached and the workers have since returned back to work. We are therefore calling-off Saturday's march," said Mdu Nkosi,IFP Chairperson of the Durban Metro.
