STATEMENT BY:
MR BEN
SKOSANA MP
IFP
WESTERN CAPE CORE GROUP MEMBER
31 January 2008
The Inkatha
Freedom Party in the Western Cape strongly condemns the actions
of certain Khayelitsha residents who reacted with abuse and
violence by stoning a teacher's house simply because he is
coloured and wants to live in the neighbourhood.
The IFP
believes that this is totally against the spirit of Ubuntu and
peaceful co-existence.
Such
shameful actions must be condemned in the strongest possible
manner and cannot be allowed in the present democratic South
Africa, where people are allowed to live where they can afford
to establish their homes and raise their children.
The IFP
would like to call on the leaders of Khayelitsha to urgently
address the situation. These residents who reacted with such
race hate must be reminded that the Constitution of South Africa
states that everyone has the right to freedom of movement, and
everyone has the right to reside anywhere in South Africa.
