National Assembly: 10th November 2009
Madam Speaker,
The IFP is concerned that airline ticket
prices are going to rise dramatically next year.
This is going to occur it appears,
immediately before, during and after the 2010 World Cup, when
hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to visit us to enjoy
what they believe to be our honest hospitality.
The actions of airlines capitalising on this
high demand by doubling, tripling and even quadrupling ticket prices
are highly distasteful.
If media reports indicating this scenario
are to be believed, then something needs to be done to stop it.
The IFP calls on government to apply itself
to prevent this price collusion and blatant profiteering by
airlines.
We ask government to commit itself to
looking after the interests of the consumers rather than that of big
business. |
