The Inkatha
Freedom Party Youth Brigade (IFPYB) condemns, in the strongest
manner, the South African Students Congress' s(SASCO) call that
the Mangosuthu University of Technology must be renamed, said
the acting IFP Youth Brigade (IFPYB) Chairperson, Mrs Pat
Lebenya-Ntanzi MP, today.
"It has
become very clear that the ruling party and its affiliates are
openly targeting the IFP with the entire renaming process,"
commented Mrs Lebenya-Ntanzi.
She
continued: "The IFPYB agrees that in some instances name changes
are necessary, but we are angered by SASCO's call to change the
name of the Mangosuthu University of Technology.
"Our leader,
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, after whom the University is named,
played a key role for almost half a century in the fight against
apartheid and ultimately played a leading role in the liberation
of South Africa.
"Furthermore, we would like remind SASCO that the Mangosuthu
University of Technology was able to open its doors because of
our leader. He secured the funding and he made the University
possible and that is why it is called the Mangosuthu University
of Technology.
In
conclusion Mrs Lebenya-Ntanzi said: "The IFPYB believes that we
should have street names, place names and Universities that
truly reflect our rich culture and history. The IFP has long
opposed the ruling party's determination to rename hundreds of
streets and public places and the IFPYB vows to fight Sasco's
silly proposal."
