Inkatha Freedom Party has expelled the former
eThekwini Chairperson of the IFP Youth Brigade, Muzi Simelane
after he refused to appear before the party's Disciplinary
Committee. Simelane was sentenced to a three-year suspension by
the eThekwini leadership of the IFP in November after he was
found guilty of contravening the IFP Constitution by publicly
opposing the resolution of the party's National Council and
disrupting the IFP meeting at uMlazi.
Announcing Simelane's expulsion in a statement
issued today, the IFP Chairperson in eThekwini Mduduzi Nkosi
said:
"As the Disciplinary Committee of the IFP, we
have had no option but to expel Mr. Muzi Simelane from the IFP
with immediate effect. As it is known, Simelane was suspended
from the party in November following his contravention of our
Constitution. We were hoping that he would see his mistakes and
repent. Unfortunately he continued to do the very things for
which he had been suspended - making public provocative and
irresponsible statements which showed disrespect to the party
and its leadership.
"As a result of his behaviour, the
Disciplinary Committee summoned him to answer on the new
charges. Unfortunately he refused. Then on Tuesday, 02 February 2010, the DC met in his absence,
and, having deliberated on his case, arrived at verdict that he
must be expelled from the IFP.
"Let it be known therefore to everyone,
especially the media, that as from now Muzi Simelane has no
relation whatsoever with iNkatha Freedom Party, and cannot under
any circumstances make pronouncements in the name of the party."
