The acting
IFP Youth Brigade Chairperson (IFPYB), Mrs Pat Lebenya-Ntanzi,
today said that the eThekwini Municipality's plans to legalise
Durban's red-light districts before the 2010 World Cup should be
condemned in the strongest possible manner.
Mrs
Lebenya-Ntanzi commented: "Our government is sending out mixed
messages to the youth of this country. On the one hand it
preaches strong family values and moral regeneration, but on the
other hand they want to legalise prostitution on Durban's
streets. It doesn't make sense.
"Government
claims to be firmly behind moral regeneration and the
transformation of the South African society, yet they have
recently passed laws allowing 12-year-olds the legal right to
abort, while legalised red-light districts are on the cards to
'welcome' our 2010 tourists. Will this lead us to a just,
proper and moral society? The IFPYB doesn't believe so.
"As a party,
the IFP believes in a society underpinned by the spirit of
ubuntu / botho. We also believe in a moral society that is based
on strong family values and a strong community.
"The IFPYB
therefore calls on all South Africans to stand-up and oppose the
eThekwini Municipality's plans to legalise prostitution.
"Let's us
all work towards restoring the moral fibre of our nation. The
IFP believes that this vision can be achieved through our values
of solidarity, freedom and unity in diversity and our principles
and policies coupled with bold leadership and political
courage," concluded Mrs Pat Lebenya-Ntanzi.
