Dr Jabulani Mjwara Must be Held Accountable for
Prof. Gabriel Ndabandaba's Son's Funeral Expenses

IFP PRESS STATEMENT BY:
The Hon. Dr LPHM Mtshali MPP

IFP Leader of Official Opposition KwaZulu Natal Parliament

8th July 2008

Inkatha Freedom Party says Dr Jabulani Mjwara must be personally held accountable for about R87 000 spent by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs to cover the funeral expenses for the son of the former Minister for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Prof. Gabriel Ndabandaba. Reacting to the story which appeared in yesterday's Witness, the Leader of the Official Opposition in the KwaZulu Natal Legislature, Dr Lionel Mtshali said:

"As the IFP, we are still hurting about the unfortunate experience which befell Prof. Gabriel Ndabandaba and his family, to lose their son in the crash at an air show in Vereeniging in 2005. What saddens us even more now is the report which appeared in yesterday's Witness to the effect that the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs spent about R87 000 of the taxpayers' money to pay for the expenses of the memorial and funeral services without the knowledge and of approval of Prof Ndabandaba.

"Our position is that the former Head of the Department, Dr Jabulani Mjwara must be held personally accountable for authorizing the use of government funds to pay for that funeral."
