The IFP spokesperson on sport
Eric Lucas has hailed the recently held FIFA World Cup Football
tournament, "as an absolute and resounding success for our
country and its people".
"It was incredible and a true
testament to what South Africa and South Africans are really
capable of. We exceeded all expectations in showcasing one of
the most memorable FIFA World Cup tournaments in the history of
FIFA," said Lucas.
In addition he said: "I have
never witnessed such a strong sense of unity amongst South
Africans; it was truly a humbling experience to bear witness to
and be a part of such a wonderful event. The resultant
nation-building has advanced our country in leaps and bounds
within in all spheres."
Mr Lucas lauded the efficiency
and effectiveness in which the World Cup tournament was held.
"There were never any queues,
it went off like clockwork. Our Police Force and Judiciary
services were top notch; any threats to the safety of our
visitors were quickly identified and dealt with. The various
FIFA Fan parks were also a great attraction, enabling all South
Africans to partake in the spirit and festivity of the
tournament."
Lucas said that the sporting
facilities which have been developed across the country in joint
initiative projects with FIFA will have benefits for the youth
for many years to come.
"Our youth are now the proud
beneficiaries of a legacy which will bear dividends for decades
to come. It is now up to us to continue in the spirit and vein
of the FIFA World Cup in building a truly representative,
democratic and free South Africa: one nation, one people, one
destiny," concluded Lucas.
