17th July 2008

The Inkatha Freedom Party would like to congratulate Cosatu's general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi, for being awarded the Pan African Lifetime Achievement Award from the TransAfrica Forum in Washington, said Mr Velaphi Ndlovu, IFP MP today.

Mr Ndlovu commented: "The IFP would like to congratulate Mr Vavi for being recognised by such a prestigious international institution that promotes human rights, social justice, diversity and equity in Africa.

"The IFP believes that Mr Vavi is a worthy recipient because he has dedicated his life to improving the lives of ordinary South Africans.

"However, the IFP now hopes that Mr Vavi will realise that as a respected leader, both locally and internationally, he owes the public and the SAHRC an apology for his "kill for Zuma" remarks. If he doesn't take responsibility for his actions, there will be no real reason to celebrate his remarkable leadership skills. Because an important aspect of being a great leader is the ability to recognise when you've made a mistake," concluded Mr Ndlovu.
