SOUTH AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC STUDENTS'
MOVEMENT MEDIA/PRESS STATEMENT MIDNIGHT DECLARATION
Durban Manor Hotel & Conference Centre
It is on record that the IFP Annual
General Conference will sit on 28-30 May 2010; this conference
comes at a time when the IFP is faced with worrying challenges -
many of which have soiled the IFP's identity and have undermined
the Party Constitution and its due processes.
The issue of change and transformation
has formed the basis of the continuing struggles in the Party;
the sad reality is that what is essentially an important issue
has been altered and turned into poisonous succession battle.
We are mindful that all positions are
due for election at the conference, and as disciplined
democrats, we will not challenge that.
After long and critical discussions, we
have arrived at the solid conclusion that the IFP, for its own
good, needs now, more than ever before the leadership of PRINCE
DR. INKOSI MANGOSUTHU BUTHELEZI. To this end we propose that
Shenge should continue leading the IFP. We are aware that Prince
Mangosuthu has indicated that he will consult with family before
arriving at a decision on this matter, we hope he will arrive at
decision favourable to our pronouncements.
Moreover, we are of the view that in the
collective interests of Party unity we propose the current
National Chairperson and the current Secretary General should
retain their positions.
It is important to stress that the
agenda of change and transformation runs parallel with the
succession and transition.
We plead with IFP members to apply their
sober minds on this issue for the greater good of the Party. The
reality is that the IFP is faced with a battle for its soul -
and as SADESMO we are committed to defending the IFP from any
form of political thuggery - in the form of activities that are
foreign to the Party. The only interests that are of primary
importance to the IFP are those of serving people as a
collective and not individuals.
We stand by Shenge - we believe in him -
and his legacy is our launch pad into the future.
