The IFPYB believes the revelation that
ANCYL President Julius Malema has made millions from government
tenders is proof that that the ANC is rotten to the core and
that the ANC's jobs-for-pals-policy is bankrolling ANC
politicians at the expense of the very people they claim to
represent.
"Malema claims to represent the
interests of the poorest of the poor but he has now been exposed
as nothing more than a hypocrite. Malema constantly reminds
opposition parties that he is the sole voice of the
marginalised, poor and oppressed but we are thankful that this
has now been rubbished as nothing more than cheap, political
rhetoric," said Pat Lebenya-Ntanzi, the IFP Youth Brigade
Chairperson.
It has been reported that Malema's
companies were awarded more than 20 contracts, each worth
between R500 000 and R39m between 2007 and 2008.
"Malema has enriched himself from
government contracts in Limpopo while many communities in that
Province remain impoverished and without basic services. Malema
should tell the people of Limpopo how much he has reinvested
into the area; he is after all the one who is always lambasting
businesses, especially those owned by whites, for not doing
enough for the poor," added Lebenya-Ntanzi.
Lebenya-Ntanzi said tough questions must
be now be asked about the ANC elite and their involvement in
government business.
"We need answers as to how Malema's
company was awarded these contracts?
Were the correct tendering processes
adhered to and were the contracts awarded on merit?" asked
Lebenya-Ntanzi.
In conclusion Lebenya-Ntanzi said: "BEE
has failed in its intended purpose of benefiting the previously
disadvantaged. Instead it has created a small, black ANC-elite.
The IFPYB believes that we now need to look at implementing
policy that will prohibit ANC fat cats from benefiting from
government tenders."
