The IFP leadership of the Indlovu
District met yesterday, 21 July 2010, and endorsed the latest
resolution of the National Council to postpone the Annual
General Conference to prevent the party from splitting.
"The situation in the IFP is too
volatile to hold an elective conference. Tensions are running
high and people are being killed. We need time for things to
cool down," said IFP Deputy National Chairperson Velaphi Ndlovu,
who hails from the Indlovu District.
The Indlovu District leadership believes
the National Council made the right decision to postpone the
conference until the atmosphere in the party is conducive to holding
a successful conference, and until IFP National Chairperson VZ
kaMagwaza-Msibi has been afforded an opportunity to clear her
name.
"The Indlovu District leadership
contends that the enquiry into the conduct of the IFP National
Chairperson will clear the air and help normalise the situation
in the party. The IFP cannot legitimately elect its leaders
until the party can guarantee an election free from intimidation
and violence," said Ndlovu.
