The appointment of Advocate Lawrence Mushwana as the Chairman of the SA Human Rights Commission triggers both hopes and concerns. 

As the Public Protector he misunderstood his role; played second fiddle to government and emasculated one of our constitution's most important guarantees. 

We hope the appointment offers him an opportunity to mend his ways and prove his worth rather than compounding his past failures and dereliction of duties.
