Negligence Of Police Officers Is Leading Communities
To Take The Law Into Their Own Hands

24 January 2012

The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu Natal has requested the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, to intervene in the prevention of communities taking the law into their own hands, by ensuring that police negligence is stopped.

“The only other reason why we are having so many people who are alleged to be criminals, stoned to death or burnt by their communities is because when they report to their local police station, their cases are not immediately attended to,” said Hon. Blessed Gwala, Shadow MEC for Community Safety and Liaison.

The IFP is calling for police motivation when doing their jobs in their chosen communities. The IFP is also calling for MEC Mchunu to root out lazy and negligent police officers.

“Although we are not condoning the acts of those communities who take the law into their own hands, it is also the fault of police officers who are either lazy or unmotivated to do their jobs because we cannot afford to lose lives or live in communities where criminals are walking free,” said Gwala.
