The IFP has congratulated the people of Ulundi
and Jozini for voting overwhelmingly for the party in
yesterday's By-Elections in Ulundi and Jozini despite what it
calls ANC's hand-outs to communities. In the IFP's victory
statement issued today, the IFP MPL who is Leader of the
Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Dr Bonginkosi
Buthelezi stated:
"The victory of the IFP in the Ulundi and
Jozini By-Elections yesterday was a clear repudiation of the
prophets of doom who had predicted the end of our party. What
made this victory significant is that the people voted
overwhelmingly for the IFP despite a concerted campaign by the
ANC which deployed its MEC's who used state resources to buy
votes from the communities by distributing food parcels and
making empty promises. In addition, government vehicles were
used to transport and campaign for ANC candidates on the
Election Day.
"However, despite all this political mischief,
the people of Ulundi and Jozini displayed their total maturity
by voting for us. This was a clear statement to the ruling ANC
that the days are gone when they went around buying votes
through hand-outs. The people told them in no uncertain terms
that no hand-outs can hide the fact that the ANC government has
failed to act on its election promises.
"We therefore salute all those who voted for
us and also the members and supporters who worked tirelessly for
this victory"
