The Chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal
Provincial Women's Brigade of the IFP, Mrs. Ncamsile Nkwanyana
has rejected media reports to the effect that she praised the
former Mayor of Zululand, Mrs. Zanele KaMagwaza Msibi, as
mischievous and part of a ploy to sow further divisions within
the IFP. Mrs. Nkwanyana was reacting to reports in today's
Isolezwe and Sowetan that she praised Mrs. KaMagwaza Msibi when
she addressed the Women's Day at eZibayeni KwaHlabisa last
Sunday.
Nkwanyana stated: "I am deeply offended
by clear display of cheap journalism which seeks to curry favour
with their bosses at my expense. The statements published by
both Mdu Ncalane of Isolezwe and Mhlaba Memela of Sowetan, which
they attribute to me, are nothing more than poisonous
distortions which are meant to further deepen divisions within
the IFP and which I reject with contempt they deserve.
"For the record, in KwaHlabisa I
expressed my praise to the Hlabisa Municipality for having
established a Women's Forum. I then urged other Municipalities
to emulate the good example of the Hlabisa Municipality. It was
in that context that I remarked that the Zululand District
Municipality has a program to assist widows. I went on to state
that I would urge my Municipality as well to follow the same
example. I reiterate, the Zululand Municipality was only
mentioned in the context of the speech in which I was praising
the Hlabisa Municipality. Never did I single out the former
Mayor of Zululand for any praise.
"Such conduct by these journalists tends
to lend credibility to accusations that some journalists have
paymasters other than their official employers, whose agendas
they pursue. I am definitely taking this matter up with the
Editors of both Isolezwe and Sowetan to have both newspapers
publish a correction. If I get no reprieve I will have no option
but to approach the Press Ombudsperson."
