Nongoma Municipality Still Paying Salaries Of Resigned Councillors

26 January 2012

THE Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu Natal is concerned about Councillors who have resigned but who are still being paid by the National Freedom Party led Nongoma municipality, while some wards are left stranded without Ward or PR Councillors.

“It is disturbing that a struggling municipality like Nongoma has the commodities to pay for Councillors that have resigned from their posts in order to join the NFP (Khulekani Dladla and Sihlangu Qwabe). It is of greater concern when the community has to suffer while they are without Councillors but the Independent Electoral Commission is not informed of such occurrences,” said honourable Blessed Gwala, Leader of official Opposition.

The IFP calls for the KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube to root out these fraudsters by launching an investigation onto who is liable for this conduct. The IFP is gravely concerned that the Municipal Manager and Mayor are alleged to be “aiding” these councillors by creating opportunities for the illicit siphoning of funds while they don’t report for duty.

“The MEC needs to act upon these allegations and the culprits must be dealt with immediately, we cannot afford to have taxpayers money misused for the pleasure of cadre satisfaction,” said honourable Gwala.
