IFP PRESS STATEMENT BY:
MR ALBERT MNCWANGO MP
IFP NATIONAL ORGANISER
26th June 2008
IFP National
Organiser, Mr Albert Mncwango, today said that the party has
received strong information that agent provocateurs will be
planted at the IFP march in Johannesburg on Saturday, 28 June
2008.
The IFP will
march in protest of the unfair and unfounded portrayal of Prince
Mangosuthu Buthelezi in the new history text book for Grade 12
learners, the belittling of the role of IFP President in the
liberation of South Africa and the controversial street renaming
process in Durban.
Mr Mncwango
commented: "We have informed the police that we have received
information that troublemakers will be deployed to disrupt our
march on Saturday. The objective of these agents will be to
disrupt the march and to commit acts of violence and destruction
with the ultimate aim of discrediting the IFP.
"We are
calling on police to investigate these rumours and to deploy
sufficient human and other resources to deal with all
eventualities. The IFP is a law-abiding party and we are
committed to work with the police to make sure that Saturday's
march is an uneventful one.
Mr Albert
Mncwango also dispelled rumours regarding the march in Durban
last week.
"Despite
media reports that indicated otherwise, our march was very
peaceful.
"We have
also taken note of comments by Durban municipal manager Mike
Sutcliffe who said marches might not be allowed on Saturdays in
future because the IFP had shown it was not prepared to abide by
its contracts and its future requests would therefore be
carefully considered.
"This is
utter nonsense and we want to remind Mr Sutcliffe that it is our
constitutional right to march and we will continue to let our
voices be heard," concluded Mr Mncwango.
