The IFP has issued a stern warning to
all its mayors and councillors to keep out of the so-called
‘succession debate’ which the party views as an internal matter
to be dealt with during its upcoming Annual General Conference.
“Any IFP councillor or mayor found to be
participating in activities that may bring the party into
disrepute will see decisive steps taken against him or her by
the relevant party structures,” said IFP National Organiser and
Acting Chairperson of the Political Oversight Committee (POC)
Albert Mncwango.
Speaking on behalf of the POC and the
National Executive Committee (NEC), Mncwango reacted to the
media reports that suggest that certain IFP mayors and
councillors have threatened to challenge decisions of the
party’s various decision-making bodies that pertain to
redeployment of party members within the local government.
“The IFP will not hesitate to apply
those sections of the party constitution that deal with internal
party discipline. Those who bring the party into disrepute will
suffer the consequences in terms of the IFP constitution,” said
Mncwango.
Mncwango also reiterated a point the IFP
made previously, namely that the alleged plans to redeploy IFP
National Chairperson Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi from the position of
Mayor of the Zululand District Municipality had never been
discussed in any decision-making body of the party.
