The Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade
(IFPYB) would like to congratulate the newly-elected National
Executive Committee (NEC) of the South African Democratic
Students Movement (Sadesmo).
We urge Sadesmo to place the interests
of students and learners first, and to strive for a democratic
and non-sexist education system that will prepare students for
the job market, and develop young South Africans into citizens
that will fully partake in the building of a thriving,
democratic society.
We have however taken note of the voices
of dissent that have emanated following the Sadesmo conference.
We would therefore like to state categorically that we believe
that the conference was held in line with the constitution of
Sadesmo and the IFP, and that the rank and file of the IFPYB
stands firmly behind the newly-elected Sadesmo NEC.
We are again calling on the small
fraction of youth to desist from attempting to by-pass
democratic process within the party by pushing their own agenda
through opportunistic means.
The success of every political
organisation stands on internal cohesion of views. The IFP, the
IFPYB and Sadesmo offer ample platforms for discussion and
legitimate criticism. What we will not tolerate, however, are
ill-disciplined members who bring the youth wing and the party
into disrepute.
