R E S O L U T I O N

The National Council of the Inkatha Freedom Party expresses its outrage at the raid on the home of the Minister of Safety and Security in KwaZulu Natal, Inkosi N.J. Ngubane, on the night of April 15, 1999.

It regards the raid on the strength of flimsy sworn statements based on claims by an un-named agent as a flagrant abuse of State power to achieve party political objectives.

It is now a matter of record that no illegal firearms were found, despite the fact that the un-named agent had told Superintendent Diedericks that he had personally seen G3 and R4 riles stored at Inkosi Ngubane's home.

The National Council also notes with grave concern written statements issued in the name of the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Bulelani Ngcuka, to the effect that the IEC zip-zap registration machines had been found in Inkosi Ngubane's home.

He must have known that this was false and that the machines in question were in the home of Mr Gamuntu Sithole, and that they were in the legal possession of his daughter, an employee of the IEC.

This raid is a threat to democracy and reminiscent of the dirty-tricks of the apartheid regime.
