MEDIA ALLEGATIONS BY FORMER KZN PREMIER DR F MDLALOSE
Noting the allegations made in an interview with
the Independent Newspapers by former KwaZulu-Natal Premier and IFP
National Chairperson Dr Frank Mdlalose to the effect that:
-
he was personally ejected from the party chairmanship
and premiership by IFP President Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi;
-
that he was
accused of failing to declare Ulundi the provincial capital during his
tenure as Premier; and
-
that the IFP was never committed to a peaceful
resolution of the political conflict between itself and the ANC.
The IFP National Council has resolved:
-
to express its disappointment at Dr Mdlalose’s
misleading statements and selective interpretation of recent history which
are clearly designed to cause damage to the public image of the IFP and its
President at a difficult time for the party;
-
to put the record straight on Dr Mdlalose’s allegations
by stating that Dr Mdlalose was relieved of his party and government duties
at his own request and on the basis of a medical report that he himself
submitted to the IFP, and that Dr Mdlalose presided over a provincial
government with a clear parliamentary majority and his failure to implement
party policy of the day demonstrated that he commanded little authority over
his colleagues in the provincial government as well as the parliamentary
party; and
-
to reject the preposterous claim that the IFP resisted a
peaceful resolution to its conflict with the ANC when it was the IFP’s, and
specifically Prince Buthelezi’s, principled opposition to the armed struggle
which had been at the root of the disagreements between the two
organisations.
