eThekwini Municipality Must Investigate uShaka Marine Management
IFP member of the Executive of the eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Mdu Nkosi has urgently called for the eThekwini Municipal manager to take an initiate and intervene at uShaka Marine management to ensure that shop owners respect the employees' privacy and integrity.
"The IFP in eThekwini is very disturbed by the news that workers in uShaka Marine are working under such conditions whereby a Food Store at uShaka Marine has installed cameras under their cashier-table chair that reveals their lower bodies and underwear and invades their privacy. This follows after a concerning article in newspaper where a women employee raised their concerns, also stating that it was promised that the matter is being investigated, but no results have been availed to them as yet. When they questioned it, they are only told that it hasn't been finalized and keep on adding another two weeks to the deadline," said Cllr Nkosi.
In conclusion, we therefore demand that Municipal Manager Mr. Sibusiso Sithole must immediately intervene on this matter and follow up on the investigation; also to conduct their own investigations in order to establish if it is permissible for shop owners to install cameras that view the employees private part when they are on duty," concluded Cllr Nkosi.
