The year 2021 got off to a traumatic start for the Makhombothi family, after their home collapsed, following a heavy storm that struck Ward 5 eGangadweni, in the Okhahlamba Local Municipality last week.

The Makhombothi family was left devastated – and homeless – after they lost everything they had, when the heavy rains washed away their home and injured their 16-year-old child.

There is currently no one employed in the family of five, and their survival relies on one Grant recipient. They are extremely distressed, as they have lost everything, have no home and are living at the mercy of their neighbourhood.

The family is seeking any possible assistance.

The IFP PR councillor in Ward 5, in eGangadweni in Okhahlamba, Mr Sanele Buthelezi, wishes to extend the IFP’s deepest sympathies to the Makhombothi family, who are facing an unbearable situation, with no shelter.

As the IFP we have tried to reach out to the Ward Cllr, Sfiso Mlambo, but he is nowhere to be found. We further reported this matter to the Municipal Mayor, Mlungisi Ndlangisa, who dispatched the Department of Disaster Management. They took pictures, but to this day, nothing has been done. This family have been homeless since 29 December 2020.

Today the IFP took food parcels to the family, and we would like to urge business people – and anyone who can lend a hand – to assist this family in rebuilding their home.
