The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has received with shock and disbelief the news of the passing of King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM) Mayor, Her Worship, Nonhle Mkhulisi.
The IFP is saddened by the unprecedented rate of deaths in the province, where even community leaders are victims. As the IFP in KZN we have seen a number of Councillors and leaders passing on due to this malignant pandemic – people who had very important roles to play in their communities. Mayor Mkhulisi was one of these people. She was always approachable, and warmly received wherever she went, both being important qualities of a leader. She was also able to work across the political spectrum.
However, Mayor Mkhulisi leaves behind important challenges which need to be resolved, such as the issue of the retrenchment of former WSSA employees. We hope that in her honour, this matter will be given the attention it deserves. In addition, the water crisis in KCDM has dragged over a long period, leaving thousands of locals without potable water. This, despite the ravaging pandemic, where hygiene and hand washing are of paramount importance.
The IFP provincial leadership wishes to extend its heartfelt, deepest condolences and fortitude to the ANC PEC, her colleagues, and especially her family and friends.
Lala uphumule Mnisi wemvula.
