The IFP wishes to take this opportunity to welcome the appointment of the new Head of KZN Department of Health Dr Sandile Tshabalala.
We note that Dr Tshabalala is said to be a seasoned healthcare professional, who has worked as the chief executive (CEO) and medical manager of several hospitals in the province. Therefore, we hope that as a person who is highly decorated academically and has a vast experience in the health sector, he will be able to translate this into tangible and practical solutions that are so highly needed to improve the healthcare outcomes in the province.
It is a matter of public knowledge that the province is beset by a number of health challenges ranging from infrastructure backlogs, bad staff attitude, shortage of medical staff, medical law suits, oncology issues and shortage of ambulances and we hope he will work around the clock to fix have these issues fixed.
Furthermore, we hope Dr Shabalala will work hard in bringing back dignity to the disgraced hospitals namely Addington, Mahatma Ghandi and RK Khan Hospital which has become a death trap. These issues need serious attention and we believe Dr Shabalala has the wherewithal to tackle them without fail.
As the IFP we commend the positive moves from the KZN MEC of Health, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu and we hope that together with her team, they will continue to work hand in hand in fixing the KZN health system which deteriorated in the previous years and make sure that they are responsive to the severity of problems faced by our people of this province.
The IFP will give Dr Shabalala the time to prove himself. But we will closely monitor his performance because the wellbeing of our people should not be compromised.
