The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal demands that the KZN MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube Ncube must urgently meet with Jozini residents to stop the ongoing violent service delivery protest.
"It is shocking that the MEC has decided to meet with the residents next week Tuesday while Jozini is burning. What damage the MEC want to see from now till next week? If the MEC is competent in her duties and cares about peoples’ grievances she must change her schedule and put the needs of the people first. If she is sincere about providing services to the people as she always says, she must not hide, she must address the residents," said IFP MPL in Jozini, Mrs Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa.
"It is impossible even for me to go home because the situation is so tense. I reside here in Jozini but now I find it difficult to sleep at home because there is no way to go home. This is due to the Jozini and uMkhanyakude District inept attitude of failing to provide services to the people. Both the municipalities must do what the residents want to end the protest. Businesses are affected due to this protest and they are losing large amount of money. This needs to be addressed urgently without any further delay," conclued Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.
The IFP sympathises with the concerned residents but it believes that they must not engage themselves in the destruction of property. Although their reasons are valid, there is no need to cause damage to property as they will need it in the future.
