Condolences on the Tragic Death of 8 People in Mpumalanga

The Inkatha Freedom Party extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the 8 people, including a 3 year old child, who died in a collision between a taxi and a truck on the R38 near Barberton in Mpumalanga on Tuesday night.

“The continual death of our people through the carelessness of truck drivers is alarming. The loss of life in this manner is happening all too often on our roads and stricter measures need to be put in place to ensure truck drivers do not continue to drive on roads which are not conducive for their vehicles” said IFP spokesperson on Transport, Mr. Petros Sithole.

“Trucks need to be restricted to certain roads and have their own travelling lane. Truck owners must also ensure that not only are their vehicles serviced, but that their drivers are not pressured to drive long distances under time constraints, as accidents have taken place due to fatigue. Urgent steps must be taken to ensure these types of accidents do not continue to happen” said Sithole.

The IFP would also like to wish a speedy recovery to those who were seriously injured in the accident.
