Condolences to Families of Victims of Cape Fires

The Inkatha Freedom Party has sends its deepest condolences to the families, neighbours and friends of the victims who died in the fires that tore through the informal settlements in Masiphumelele and Langa, Cape Town, over the weekend.

IFP spokesperson on Human Settlements, Mr Petros Sithole, MP, said, “Informal settlements are fire hazards. Year upon year the residents of these settlements are victims of runaway fires. In many instances people are left destitute and most tragically, people also lose their lives,”

“With wasteful expenditure in government now at some R25 billion, there is little hope of these citizens receiving proper housing in the forseeable future. Fire safety programmes must be immediately rolled out in all informal settlements and community fire fighting units established,” concluded Mr Sithole.
