The IFP in Umhlathuze Municipality must ensure that extraordinary measures are taken in order to ensure that all residents are screened for free and that the provision of water is prioritized, especially in the areas of Ntambanana Wards 31, 32 and 33. Many communities within Umhlathuze have been without water for far too long. Thousands of residents face dire conditions and are fearful of the spread of Covid-19 (coronavirus).
The coronavirus pandemic shows-up the consistent failures of the ANC-led municipality in focusing its attention on the provision of bulk water infrastructure. Water is a basic human right as enshrined in our Constitution and the provision thereof is a legal requirement of government not an option.
We also call on all health practitioners, doctors, nurses and traditional doctors to go the extra mile in assisting those who show symptoms of Covid-19. We further call for the extension of working hours at the Umhlathuze Clinic to ensure that the entire community is protected and that no patient or resident is turned away from receiving medical advice, testing or screening.
We implore all residents within the Umhlathuze to adhere to all precautionary measures of hygiene not just because of corona but in general too to stop, prevent and protect against the spread of the coronavirus or any other viral disease and to avail themselves to the clinics as soon as any symptoms are identified.
Further to this, the IFP extends our well wishes for good health and recovery to the individuals who have been quarantined in our health facilities.
Municipal Officials must ensure that the delivery of basic services continue and that the entire community feels and is kept safe, protected and well informed of any developments with regards to Covid-19.
The IFP leadership in Umhlathuze will undergo screening and will offer support and assistance to all members of the Umhlathuze Constituency and we request members of the public to report all local government concerns, health related issues or any form of illegal or corrupt activity.
Together, we can all help to flatten the curve by remaining indoors and limiting contact with others, regularly washing our hands and maintaining good personal hygiene standards.
