Government Must Eradicate Informal Settlements

The Inkatha freedom Party says government must urgently eradicate informal settlements and provide people with proper housing structures. This follows a string of fires that have left many people dead and others displaced this winter season.

Spokesperson on Human Settlements, Hon. KP Sithole, MP, said, “People living in shacks have recently been the victims of fires, with families in Gauteng and Eastern Cape losing multiple family members to these inferno’s. This morning we saw yet another fire in Strand, Cape Town, which left hundreds of people destitute after their shacks were destroyed by the blaze”.

South Africans deserve adequate and safe housing structures; nobody deserves to stay in a shack. Government must increase efforts to urgently replace all informal settlements with proper housing structures.
