IEC Clearly Biased in Favour of Ruling Party

The ANC is receiving a first class special treatment from the IEC in the by-elections currently underway in Mtubatuba in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

“We have been informed by people in the voting districts that the ANC is currently using the private security firm called Khombindlela, which is unlawful for any political party to use a private army during the election.

Furthermore, in Ward 9 the ANC is using loud music which is against IEC regulations as no political events are permitted to take place on voting day.

This proves that the IEC is useless and is clearly biased in favour of the ruling party,” said IFP National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala.

“The Independent Electoral Commission, once one of our most robust and independent of state institutions, is now under serious threat of becoming yet another ANC lapdog. A sinister picture is emerging of an ANC determined to prevent any further losses through the ballot box, and to reverse the tide of the party’s image destroyed by empty promises, nepotism and corruption,” continued Mr Gwala.

“How are we to have confidence in a free and fair 2016 election? If the IEC becomes an extension of the ruling party, we can kiss free and fair elections goodbye,” concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP has lodged a formal complaint with the IEC, to demand an explanation and redress for what happened in Mtubatuba today.
