IFP calls for heightened vigilance as we approach Easter Weekend

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) calls for South Africans to exercise caution and heightened vigilance as we approach the Easter Weekend. As South Africa faces a possible third wave of Covid-19 infections, it falls upon each person in their individual capacity to make wise choices and to adhere to all the Covid-19 safety protocols.

Yesterday’s figures as concerns new Covid-19-related deaths are encouraging, however, 15 South Africans still lost their lives, leaving 15 families in mourning for their loved ones. This is a grim reminder that we cannot afford to relax in the face of the pandemic and allow reckless behaviour to wipe out the hard-won gains we have made, due to our collective sacrifice.

Although the rate of infection seems to be plateauing, we call for South Africans not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Let us remain at home, so as to minimise the risk of spreading the infection, and to attempt to keep our vulnerable family members safe. We are still in the early stages of our vaccination programme, but we are hopeful that next year, families and communities will be able to celebrate together, as they could before the pandemic.

Our thoughts and prayers are with families that have lost loved ones.
