IFP Calls For Urgent National And Provincial Government Intervention In Mamelodi Taxi Strike

The Inkatha Freedom Party calls for the immediate intervention of national and provincial government in order to quell the rapidly escalating taxi strike and associated violence that seems to spiralling out of control in Mamelodi .

IFP spokesperson on Transport, Mr KP Sithole, MP, said,” We warned government that this would happen. It seems that our warnings have fallen on deaf ears and now we have real crisis developing in Mamelodi with ordinary commuters, once again, being the ultimate losers”.

“National and provincial government must immediately intervene and restore peace in Mamelodi where tensions are rising and sporadic violence has already broken out over route disputes between taxi operators and Autopax. Operation Fiela and the impounding of taxis is also not helping the situation. A middle ground must be immediately brokered if we are to restore calm and peaceful resolution to this matter. There is a real danger of this matter spilling out into the province if it is not urgently resolved,” concluded Sithole, MP.
