IFP Condemns Violence At Bruntville Hostel

The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal calls for calm at Bruntville near Pietermaritzburg after the hostel was torched and many families left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

“We condemn the violence at Bruntville that has seen IFP members being driven out of their homes today. We call on the police to move swiftly to protect innocent citizens and restore calm in the area. From information we have received there was an altercation that led to a man being stabbed. One person was arrested but more violence flared up leading to the residence being set ablaze. Any form of violence must be condemned in the strongest possible terms”, said IFP National Chairman, Mr Blessed Gwala MPL.

“We call on all residents to remain calm and allow the police to do their work. It is important for IFP and ANC leadership to meet urgently to address their respective members in the hostel, with a view to preventing further violence. This sort of incident calls for responsible political leadership. We must ensure that there are no further incidents of violence in the area”, concluded Mr Gwala.
