IFP Demands Answers About the Death of Eight Children in Imbali

The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal demands answers from the Department of Transport and the police about what progress has been made in the investigation concerning the issue of a bakkie driver, who was involved in an accident where eight children from Fezokuhle Primary School in Imbali died.

“It has been months now, and we have not heard anything about the arrest of the driver involved in the accident, nor the progress in the investigations. Parents who lost their children are still waiting for answers, but nothing has happened.

How can they get closure on this matter if there is no progress,” said IFP Spokesperson on Education, Mrs Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa,MPL.

“We are convinced that this issue will end up like that of Senzo Meyiwa, where the nation is still waiting for answers from the investigators about who the killers are. We have lost patience now. We want to see action being taken against the driver of the bakkie. Failure to do that will prove that government has failed the families of the deceased children,” continued Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.

“We further demand that the MECs of Education and Transport must ensure that learners of Fezokuhle Primary School are offered safe scholar transport, so as to avoid such tragic incidents in the future,” concluded Madlopha-Mthethwa.

The IFP will submit parliamentary questions to the MECs concerned, to demand answers about what progress has been made in ensuring that learners are provided with scholar transport, and what progress has been made in fast tracking a policy to ban bakkies being used to transport our school children.
