IFP extends condolences on the death of legendary sportscaster Sbusiso Mseleku

Aug 18, 2020 | Press Releases

The IFP in KZN is shattered by the news of the untimely passing away of the sporting encyclopedia, Sbusiso Mseleku (59) (uGaz'lami), who passed away last night in Midvaal Private Hospital in Vereeniging, after having tested positive for Covid-19.

Mseleku was not only a respected sports journalism guru, but a role model for budding journalists across the journalism beats. Having started his flourishing career at the Ilanga lase Natal newspaper, Mseleku proceeded to become a trove of information in the national sporting fraternity.

His sociable character earned him friends across the length and breadth of the country, especially in eMagabheni near uMkhomazi on the south coast of Durban. Mseleku will be remembered for his passion for the development of sports in eMagabheni, where he would organise annual sporting tournaments, where young and local talent was tapped and nurtured. He also hosted Christmas events, where he showered his community with gifts.

It is sad that we continue to lose our heroes and heroines due to Covid-19. On behalf of Honourable VF Hlabisa, President of the IFP and Leader of the Official Opposition, IFP President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, and entire IFP family, we wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mseleku.

His extensive knowledge of South Africa's football history and its dynamics was a fountain of wisdom for many football fans. He will be missed for his insightful and unbiased reporting.

Hamba kahle Gaz'lam, may your soul rest in peace.
