The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal calls on the former KZN MEC of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize who is now the ANC Treasurer General to intervene in the rates debacle between resident whose family donated land to build a clinic in Inchanga and the KZN Department of Health.
“This matter needs to be addressed by Dr Zweli Mkhize since the land was donated while he was the MEC of Health at that time and he should be aware of the negotiations that took place. We want him to explain what agreements were made regarding this matter between the two parties. The problem is that Mr Fakazi Mngadi whose father donated the land to build clinic is now caught between a rock and a hard place as the eThekwini Municipality is demanding that he must pay R89 176.45 for rates that he supposedly owes on the clinic. It is the Department of Health that is the owner of the clinic but it is not willing to settle this bill,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson, Mrs Ncamisile Nkwanyana.
“I have raised this matter in the KZN Legislature, with the present MEC of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, but it seems my concerns have fallen on deaf ears and this matter has still not been settled. What should happen is that the department must foot the bill for the rates as the custodian of the clinic. We cannot allow a situation where people who offer assistance to government are then being victimised in this way. This is not the way to encourage public-private partnerships,” concluded Mrs Nkwanyana.
