IFP Marks World Environment Day

By Hon. Narend Singh MP
IFP Chief Whip in Parliament

World Environment Day is the United Nation’s most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

The IFP accepts and endorses international conventions, treaties and guidelines, which support sustainable development and attempt to create a global alliance for the preservation of our planet.

Since it began in 1974 World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.

We call on all our members and supporters to take initiative and observe the theme for 2018 – which is beating plastic pollution. We owe it to the future of our marine – and wildlife.

All South Africans have a responsibility towards the protection and preservation of our beautiful land and environment and we should all rally behind local, provincial, national and global causes to ensure that we pay it forward for the next generation.

The IFP supports the view that it is the responsibility of government at all levels to actively promote environmental education programmes throughout society.

All our members, partners and supporters can contribute in any way even as little as the saying goes about plastic bags: “If you can’t reuse it – refuse it.”
