IFP: PRASA Must Conduct a Full Rail Infrastructure Safety Audit

The Inkatha Freedom Party calls upon PRASA to ensure that the safety of South African rail commuters is its number one priority.
IFP spokesperson on Transport, Mr KP Sithole, MP, said,” The train collision in Germiston yesterday, which followed closely upon the horror accident in Kroonstad last week, must set alarm bells ringing at PRASA that the safety of our rail infrastructure networks are simply abysmal,”

“The incident yesterday appears to have been caused by reckless human error and PRASA must assume full responsibility and see it that all those who were injured are adequately treated and compensated for their injuries, pain and suffering,”

“The regularity with which these incidents occur points to serious flaws within the PRASA rail infrastructure network and a full safety audit of the infrastructure should be conducted and corrective action, where necessary instituted,”

The Inkatha Freedom Party extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the Kroonstad rail/truck collision last week, and we wish all those injured in that accident as well as those injured in the Germiston collision yesterday, a speedy recovery to full health,” concluded Sithole, MP.
