IFP President to Take Up National Assembly Seat

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) National Executive Committee (NEC) at its meeting today has resolved the following:

1. The vacancy in the National Assembly arising from the passing of His Excellency the IFP Founder and President Emeritus Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will be filled by IFP President, Hon. Velenkosini Hlabisa, MPL.

2. The vacancy that will arise in the KZN Legislature owing to the resignation of IFP President will be filled by Rev Musa Zondi.

3. The Leader of the Official Opposition in the KZN Provincial Legislature will now be the National Chairperson, Hon. Blessed Gwala MPL, who was the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition.

4. The Chief Whip of the Official Opposition will now be the Deputy National Chairperson, Hon. Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa MPL.

These appointments are effective immediately, and the IEC and the National Assembly of Parliament will facilitate the necessary administrative processes with the Party.

The NEC has taken these decisions consistent with the party’s smooth leadership transition and believes that these changes will take forward the legacy and life’s work of Prince Buthelezi, entrench Party unity, and consolidate the IFP’s onward march to the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.

The IFP reiterates its confidence in President Hlabisa and wishes him well in his responsibilities as the IFP Parliamentary Leader.
