IFP saddened by lives lost in Msunduzi Horror crash

“The Inkatha Freedom Party in the province is deeply saddened by the tragedy that claimed 20 innocent lives on Sunday 20 August. The horror taxi crash has marred yet another weekend and robbed families of breadwinners while leaving 12 people critically injured” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Transport Hon. Mr Steven Moodley MPL.

“We have called on the department of transport on numerous occasions to seriously consider the granting of taxi subsidies to avoid the carnage that has become common place in our province. This will also serve to regulate the industry which is largely characterised by lawlessness and competitive behaviour on the part of drivers who are concerned more about money than the lives they are responsible for. While we do not condone negligent behaviour, we also question why commuters get into overloaded taxis in the first place” added Moodley

“The horror crash which reportedly took place after the taxi hit a barrier on the main road in Msunduzi Valley and rolled down an embankment has added to the death toll due to road carnages. We are gravely concerned that with less than a month to go before the Third term school vacation, so many innocent lives have been prematurely snuffed out. This calls for urgent action on the part of the department and all stakeholders. The IFP records our heartfelt condolences to the family of the bereaved and wish the injured a speedy and complete recovery. We thank the paramedics who assisted in stabilising and assisting the injured and salute them for the role they played in saving lives.” Concluded Moodley.
