IFP: Shambolic State Of KZN Department Of Health Scares Off Potential Candidates

The IFP believes that the shambolic state of the KZN Department of Health might scare off qualified and experienced candidates to be appointed in many vacant posts including the CFO position which has not been filled since 2015.

The Department of Health is in shambles and qualified individuals are afraid to take up posts within the department as it has an already tarnished reputation, riddled with corruption.

This Department is known as the department in ICU. Numerous reports about the department showed it had collapsed. The Department of Health has failed to address the oncology crisis and other health issues. This department is on a slippery slope and there are no strategies to turn things around.

We have been questioning the competence and integrity of Dhlomo about the poor state of services offered by provincial hospitals but the MEC is turning a blind eye and our concerns are falling on deaf ears. We are concerned about these unnecessary delays in appointments as it impacts on the functionality of the department of health.

There are many vacant posts in the KZN Department of Health that need to be filled urgently:

  1. Deputy Director General: DHS
  2. Chief Director: SCM
  3. Chief Director: Corporate Communications
  4. Chief Director: Financial Management
  5. Director: Forensic Pathology Services
  6. CEO/Medical Manager: Jozini CHC
  7. CEO: Montebello Hospital
  8. CEO: Mosvold Hospital

It is crucial that these positions are filled soonest as the absence of this expertise is posing a challenge to health care provision.

The most efficient and productive government departments and institutions are those who have talent acquisition and retention plans in place.
